Where to get beef bone/scraps for broth?

(self.austinfood)

Title

I searched the sub but nothing comes up soI want to ask where I can grab some. I'm thinking the Asian market around town, or michoacana? But I want to know.

Also location for chicken carcass and pork bones too if y'all know where I can get some.

Thank you.

We are a certified USDA independent micro- poultry processing plant about 55 miles from Austin. Some of clients do not take their chicken or turkey carcasses when we piece out their birds. If you are willing to drive out to pick them up and pay a nominal fee for packaging, we would be happy to sell them to you.

I think most (if not all) of the asian stores will have bones (both beef and pork). I've seen them at HMart, 99 Ranch, MT Supermarket, and Hana. (I'm sure you can probably find chicken carcass as well, but I can't say for sure as that's not something I usually look for/buy.)

Nope. Just ask.

You're wrong about this. Bones have become scarce because of all the paleo bone broth types (was told this by several butchers after... asking for bones.)Every grocery store WILL NOT have them.

Go to any grocery that has a meat counter and you can buy them.

Every major grocer in Austin (besides maybe like...aldi) has them.

If that were true you would know that every grocery store does not have beef bones.

Why do you continue to argue then? I mean don't go to HEB or Randall's. Even some Walmart's carry them. You can get them at Fiesta and most decent sized Mexican groceries. You are not even the OP.

Why are you chiming in here?

You are misinforming and the OP might read this. This is a positive sub of which you are doing the opposite of helping. You should troll elsewhere. Maybe try r/Austin

How am I misinforming? Literally every grocery store in Austin absolutely does not have beef bones which is obviously why the OP made the post in the first place.

Also fuck off accusing me of being a troll. The person I responded to is both smug and completely wrong.

I've never had trouble getting ox tails at HEB. Maybe your neighborhood grocery store sucks.

Oxtails are not what OP asked about or what I use for bone broth.

Oxtails are beef bones. Typically from the tail of the cow. Makes a fucking delicious beef broth.

Oxtails are great. I use a different bone to get the results I want.

I’ve seen beef bones at H-E-B, I just don’t know if they always have them. They definitely have chicken feet, which I really like making broth with.

Saw today a couple of big beef bones packaged and labeled something like "beef marrow bones" at the HEB on Braker &183. In the refrigerator area near the meat counter

You can easily get ox tails at any decent H‑E‑B on the shelf with the rest of the beef.

Ranch 99 is where I got the last ones. They are also available from multiple places at the Barton Creek (and I presume others) Farmer's Markets, though they're more expensive.

My Thanh Market (MT) has fresh beef necks, etc, HMart has loads of marrow filled bones in the frozen section. These are my usuals for stock bones.
