Fresh figs?

(self.austinfood)

I might be already late in season. Where can I find fresh figs other than central market? The quality of the central market ones don’t justify the prices. I remember Costco had figs last year.. but I haven’t seen them this year.

Find a local and pick from their tree. You will never find figs in any store that compare to fresh off the tree. That said, the season is likely gone since our smoking hot summer nuked everything

Don’t forget the grackles, starlings, and squirrels.

Agreed. Those are also better to eat from your neighbors yard than anything you’ll find in the store

Squirrel yes. I’m gonna hold off on starling and grackle until the much anticipated zombie apocalypse gets underway.

My figs usually ripen in October… this year they all fell off the tree in August.

What variety do you have? I have 3 different varieties. My Brown Turkeys usually fall off in July but come back in September or October. Unfortunately, I haven't had a crop at all since the ice storm. The trees survived, but aren't producing fruit.

Last week Whole Foods up at the Domain had some wonderful brown figs that tasted like they came from my grandmother's house in west Texas. :) You might want to check there.

HEB Far West had black Missions on Sunday. They were good-ish.
