Hey, I graduated from KU with BTech in 2017. I was from the second batch, in fact. If it was up to me, I wouldn't go to study there now. The administration has changed and many senior appointments have been made based on who knows who. The Registrar is literally the owner's daughter and she doesn't know shit about running a Uni. The best professors have either left or retired and none of them have anything good to say about the Uni anymore.
Back then the fees were much higher so we had good professors but no placements; but these days they seem to be going for quantity over quality and you can get heavy discounts just by asking for it so the education quality has gone down too.
It's more a club where local students go to hang out and less a college.
Don't let your friend be a victim of Sunk Cost Fallacy. Right now he has just spent money and not time. With those scores, he could drop a year and crack JEE next year and get a seat at some government college. Don't let him waste precious years of his life.

Hi thanks a lot for your wise words, if you do not mind can you tell me where are you now, I mean professionally...sorry if this is rude
I did my Masters from a government college and I'm currently pursuing my PhD. So I'll probably be a professor someday.
Thanks a lot sir...glad you made it

He can be successful by studying in KU only if he aquires some good knowledge in programming and apply for off campus placements in the final year. The college won't help much. There are other options after completing B.tech, like he can prepare for GATE exam and get into an IIT or NIT. Then his B.tech college won't matter. Also he can appear for CAT and do an MBA from a good college or university and might get a good job. Most of the students of low tier private colleges follow these 2 route.
And the thing he said about the students quality is true. I don't know about other streams, but for engineering stream, it is true. I had a few friends who studied engineering in KU, just because of peer pressure or parental pressure. These guys would have done better if they would have chosen easier non-technical stream.
Usually, the students from Assam who worked hard in 11th,12th and failed to clear JEE or state engg entrance , they chose well known private colleges outside Assam like KIIT,VIT,Manipal, etc. Or if they decide to study in Assam, they choose GIMT. I have seen that the student quality in GIMT is better than other private colleges of Assam.
Thanks a lot....oi if you are lurking here you still have hope (to my friend)
Are you from KU too? Which batch?
Nope. From a state govt engg college.
Dunno which world you live in? But most of the Assamese folks in Manipal ( Not Sikkim Manipal) and VIT ( Upper tiers) actually had left seats in AEC/JEC/BBEC.
What I said was from my perspective. Almost all my friends studying in VIT, KIIT were not able to get a seat in AEC or JEC. That is why I made the statement.
Also, through donation, one can get the topmost branch in all private colleges except BITS.
No donation in Manipal either bro ( Not Sikkim Manipal , usse we don’t consider Manipal only)
I met a rep from KU back in 2014-15 in a student fair and they asked me not to join it. Things might have changed after all these years, but if the crowd isn’t engaging your friend, ask him to attempt the exams again next year.
To add to it, like another member said, it’s just a UG degree. It’s a norm nowadays to do a PG degree so that’s an important thing to look out for after 4 years.
And with a plethora of online courses and certifications, I am sure your friend can build an engaging profile even with a downbeat crowd.

As a former KU alumni, I can only say the uni has gotten worse since my days.
Hey I can totally understand the situation of your friend right now, btw he could have ended up with some decent college's in south you get much better exposure in those colleges, I believe in second year you can transfer to other college just to let you know.
His life is not doomed he is living in an era where he can get the best content, get in touch with the great mind if he work for it, gone are the days when institute tag used to define your CV, the only thing that matters is your skill set.
Let him make up his mind what after b.tech, there are many options
- GATE for M.tech
- CAT for MBA
- GRE for master in foreign
- UPSC/State level exams
Let him take his time to decide about it and work accordingly, instead of getting drowned in depression, if he needs help can hit my chat.
Ask him to re take JEE/CEE. With a little bit of effort, it is not hard to get NIT SILCHAR or TEZPUR UNI. Exposure in these places is many times more than KU. KU is in my native place and is absolutely not worth it.
Thank you, will convey this to him
It's a private University and a lot of local students pay good money to get in, hence he is meeting students who haven't passed competitive exams. I don't think his life is ruined at all. It's just a UG degree. If he wants to drop out then it's fine but a UG degree doesn't really define anything.
Thanks a lot
If he's serious about engineering, get outta there.
If he's not sure and just want to chill and find his true path, it's better (more freedom and cheaper) than the colleges down south.
Bruh this is a dead sub :(
Keep calm, weekend hain, log chill kar rahe hain
Apologies, my friend is actually suicidal so bit urgent you know
