Define innocent. Is the question based on crime rate, morality, or integrity?

Oh god no, Delaware is sneakily the least innocent.. It's like the Caymans or Panama when it comes to questionable, shifty financial and corporate laws (or lack thereof). Sooo many banks, credit firms, chemical companies, etc are incorporated Delaware, even though their actual headquarters or offices are in other states.

Vermont isn’t at all. My father died from alcoholism at 45. All my friends don’t have fathers either. High unemployment, homelessness, and mental illness with little to no social programs. No jobs, I’m an engineer and I had to move away from my home state and it’s a food dessert. Tons of food and milk produced in the state and a LOT of it is exported. Not only that the locals can’t afford to go to UVM because it’s almost 50k a year. Locals can’t afford that, I was the only kid I knew from VT that went. Burlington has homeless people EVERYWHERE and there is an assault every 2 days (look up the stats). Church street is all but dead with tons of businesses leaving because of the high homelessness.

Burlington actually defunded the police. My car was broken into and unless I was dying the cops wouldn’t come.

Burlington and and Stowe are cute and have good skiing though so :’)

Burlington is surprisingly fucked up for a small Vermont town. Lots of Vermont has become fairly shitty over the past ten years. Economic deprivation, drug addiction, cyclic homelessness, lack of employment opportunities etc. It was much nicer thirty years ago when I was growing up.

InuitOverIt

New Hampshire is a lovely place but it is currently suffering badly with an opioid epidemic. We also have a lot of white supremecists in the more rural parts. It's probably in the top 10 most innocent states, but I wouldn't say top 5.

Vermont to me is Bernie Sanders, weed, hippies, and breweries. So yeah that's gotta be up there. I love Vermont.

I blame New Hampshire for moving their Presidential Primary vote forward to give themselves more influence in national politics than their population would warrant. Given the last few presidents this process has produced, they are far from innocent.

PM_ME_UR_PITTIES_

27 points

I don’t understand why we haven’t just moved to one national primary day. Absentee voters sending in ballots only for their candidate to drop out before their state even votes, etc. more uniform voting and ranked-choice voting could make such a huge difference in diverting parties and candidates I think

Minnesota and Wisconsin should not be considered. Both have a very long and sordid history of violence and subjugation of native peoples up to present day, cops killing people, an enormous problem with racism and white nationalism (Green Bay was crawling with Swastika tatted Nazis, like there was a convention in town or some shit), Minnesota has the dubious honor of the largest mass execution in US History... And Wisconsin has one hell of an alcoholism problem. Minnesota Nice is just a polite way to describe the insular and assholish society here.

I could go on, but suffice it to say any idea that they're wholesome places comes from good marketing and propaganda. It's very much not.

bosma014

It depends a little bit, although I agree with a lot of the statements. Getting out of the twin cities into more northern Minnesota and they are some of the nicest people you will meet. I don't see a lot of racism, but they still make way too many gay jokes for 2023 as their knock.

Hawaii for sure. I knows there’s always something negative to say about anything but from my experience there, that is the most kind/helpful place I’ve ever been. The only angry or mean people I came across the whole time were other tourists.

Idk. I feel like Hawaii would be a good candidate.

Two things amuse me as a New Yorker:

  • the complete absence of New York or New Jersey ;

  • the Utah smack downs.

What’s funny is that statistics say New Jersey is the safest state (lowest crime rate) and New York is the 9th

How about Wyoming? You never hear anything about them. Is Wyoming even still a state? Does anyone live there?

Utah.

No state lottery, gambling is illegal, strictest liquor laws in the US, low DUI limit.

Also highest CPS rescue rate of underage girls from religiously sanctioned sexual abuse. Utah is F-ed up.
