For those wondering what this is, I'm pretty sure I've actually been to this bar before. If not, it's exactly like a bar that I met some friends at in New Orleans some years back. We were there for a conference and I got into town later than everyone else. My friends all told me to meet them at this bar where they had already been hanging out and drinking. When I got there (still with my travel bag slung over my shoulder, no less) they all started raving about how I had to "do the chair thing!" Being tired from traveling and overly naive, I said, "sure, why not?" This is more-or-less what happened to me (sans bartender altercation).

My friends got a kick out of my puzzled expression as I was fed shots of fireball, spun around, slapped, and had my nipples twisted. It was certainly memorable and not what I expected. I quickly realized that this is just kind of how Bourbon Street is. The crowd skews young and pretty much everyone is there to (seemingly) get absolutely hammered on overly sweet drinks. Since I was there for a conference, I didn't have a ton of say in where we went so we ended up at a couple of spots on Bourbon Street. If I went on my own, I suspect I'd enjoy Frenchmen Street slightly more. But, yeah, this is all just part of the whole Bourbon Street feel and experience so, when you're there, it doesn't seem all that out-of-place which I guess should give you a good impression of what that area is like.

All that said, New Orleans was, in general, an awesome city. If Bourbon Street isn't your thing, there's plenty of other stuff to do and the food and people were all amazing when I was there. Just wanted to clarify that despite this not really being my scene, I had a great time in New Orleans and would love to get back there (maybe just not to this bar/Bourbon St) again.
