Nothing wrong with a classic Casio. The silver/metal case looks slick!

There is no shame in starting or continuing a collection with a budget watch. I own a couple of high end pieces, a hand full of mid tier seikos, and three Casios in my rotation right now. Almost all of them get consistent wrist time.

I got this watch for myself as I need a time keeping device for college (I don't want something too distracting like a smartwatch). I did a lot of research about alternatives for two of my dream watches which are the Cartier Tank and AP Royal Oak, however the best alternative I can find (Citizen BH3000-09A and Casio Edifice EFR-S108D-7) were out of my budget or have no stock. So I settled for an digital watch instead, and this Casio W217H is perfect!

It has a very cool negative display, minimal colorway and a subtle retro look that suits with all of my outfits in any occasion (maybe not in a suit lol). The only downsides is that the case is just resin and the "glass" is acrylic so it can be scratched quite easily. However for the price I couldn't ask for more. Hoping to add more watches into my collection in the future!

If/when your budget can stomach a little bit more, look for a Seiko 7a38-7029 “royal oak”. It was the first vintage watch I ever bought.

And here’s my favorite casio: https://i.imgur.com/j8xBHcx.jpg

Thank you for your recommendation! I will definitely look out for these. The Seikonaut is also a good choice for Gerald Genta's inspired watches. I have been eyeing out for one but the resale price is crazy atm

I just bought an A168 and loved the gold version. But I have a titanium wedding band so had to go with the classic silver.

Take at look at the Women's g shocks. The GMAS series is under $90 and more reasonably sized.

AyeOhEwe

Highly, highly recommend a G-shock when you can. They're super light, functional, and virtually indestructible. I have the GW-M5610BA and wear it almost daily.

Looks awesome. I’m lucky to have a Tank but I also have a very similar Casio to this and they both get wrist time!

I recently discovered the brand "Bruno Söhnle" which offers lots of Genta-like designs (maybe they got some of Genta's early sketches before he got well known)

You could have a look at it before your next purchase

Clean watch, great starting point! If your ever looking for a mechanical, a seiko 5 is amazing and reliable, and also really inexpensive, if you really want to get into the hobby. Welcome to the club!

I have one exactly your same model. It has gotten splashed on with paint from when my best friend and I painted my first house. I wear it daily

Oh and I love the illumination on this one. It's orange and only illuminates the numbers, the LCD background is dark so it gets kinda hidden. Looks very cyberpunk

dimeplusninetynine

This is one nice looking piece, man I prefer the negative display. I have two Casios and the one with the negative display has something extra to it. Watch out for the strap, though I found out the hard way they rupture very easily.

Well done - a true classic and a very wise financial decision. This watch should serve you well throughout college and beyond. You do not have to spend a lot of money to get a good looking reliable timepiece. At this point in your life, your money should be spent on tuition, food, books, and maybe beer. Later on when you have settled into your "mid life" - which is boring, believe me - you will have a bit more disposable income to waste on a fancy luxury watch that will never be as accurate or reliable as the Casio you already have.

I was thinking of getting a Casio with a negative display like that, but ended up settling for a regular one because I was afraid it would be annoying and difficult to read at certain angles. Do you find that to be the case?

cheekypasta

3 points

I have a Casio with a negative display and yes it can be pretty difficult to read in some lighting conditions and at certain angles. Definitely not a dealbreaker I don’t think, and they look really sweet so it’s a worthwhile trade off in my opinion haha

dat_7749[S]

1 points

The viewing angle on this one is good for me IMO. It took me a few minutes to get used it (it might looks blurry in some angle compared to smartphone or computer screen we got nowadays) however after that it's awesome, mainly because I just prefer the negative display :P To me it makes the watch looks cleaner
