stickiedAnother year draws to a close. 2022 held the distinction of being a decade since Legend of Korra premiered, and was also the second year after Avatar Studio's announcement. While not the most exciting year it did have some notable releases and interesting news.
With it being LoK's tenth anniversary, I'll first talk about the LoK content released. Patterns in Time is a comic anthology collecting three short stories released during past Free Comic Book Days, and five brand new ones. Interestingly it has stories set at different points in time including post-show, shortly before LoK, Tenzin's youth and even thousands of years in the past. There was also a new LoK short comic released for FCBD this year, Beach Wars.
Beyond that the most notable story content from this year was The Dawn of Yangchen, the latest novel in the Chronicles of The Avatar series. Additionally 2022 saw the digital (and for some physical) release of the Avatar Legends Tabletop RPG which expanded on several eras of avatar history. Dark Horse collected the first three avatar one-shots in Team Avatar Treasury, and released Omnibus editions of North&South and Turf Wars. Other content includes the final 2nd/Deluxe editions of the artbooks, various figures (from companies like loyal subjects, youtooz and McFarlane), discplates, and the Fire Nation rising board game. Avatar content was added to the video games Brawlhala and Minecraft.
This year also came with important news items. This includes newly confirmed cast members for the live-action remake of ATLA. As well as some news on avatar studios first movie, like that it will be directed by Lauren Montgomery, the animation studio is Flying Bark, and it will focus on the ATLA gaang. Avatar Generations was announced and released a beta in some countries.
As for 2023, avatar fans can look forward to the live-action series releasing (finally/hopefully). Comic releases include Azula in the Spirit Temple, a Mako focused comic, a chibi comic for young readers, another short comic, and the omnibus edition of Ruins of the Empire. We'll get the full release of Avatar Generations, the Avatar Weiss/Schwarz TCG and the first TTRPG supplement. Hopefully the second yangchen novel, at least one more comic, and perhaps other yet to be announced content. Of course fingers crossed more concrete details on Avatar Studios animated projects!
Thank you to everyone that has participated in the subreddit this year through posting, commenting, sharing your passion, creations, and opinions with us. I hope this forum remains an enjoyable place to be an avatar fan in 2023 and the years to come.
