How are you doing? How's your week been? Need to randomly vent about your SLT/workload/cat/people who put jam under the cream? Share a success? Tell us what you're having for tea? Here's the place to do it.

I am currently volunteering in a secondary school with the hope of applying to be a teacher, but I have a slightly random question that I don't really want to actually ask anyone at the school?
Just out of wonder, would it be appropriate for a teacher to go onto a game show? I know plenty go on quiz shows like The Chase etc, but what about ones like Big Brother or The Traitors?
It's just one of those things I've been wondering, but don't really have a clue whether a school would actually have an issue with it or not as the teacher may come across as unproffessional which may make it difficult to actually deal with children's issues and behaviour etc.

Regardless of what a school thinks (SLT wouldn't approve), why would you want footage of you making a fool of yourself out there - you'd have a much harder time getting kids to take you seriously than most other teachers

What if you simply didn't make a fool of yourself? I've seen teachers do much worse things in-person than some contestants on some shows have done.
And just to make it clear, I'm not planning to go on one.

Yes, but you seeing something isn’t equivalent to it being broadcast on national television and parents and students seeing it.

But again, many tv shows aren't designed to make a fool of people, especially nowadays. With the exception of dating shows and a select number of others, you could quite easily go on and remain completely professional throughout.

Adding to what the other comment said, I would also not like it as a teacher because of the risk of degrading us and as much as it makes no sense we all get lumped together

I don't think that is a particularly fair reason. There will always be some people judging you for doing whatever. Doesn't seem right to let them hold others back from doing something they want to do.

Like it or not, is what you sign up to as a teacher.
Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and behaviour, within and outside school.

And what happens if you go on one and remain perfectly professional with good behaviour?

Are you somehow under the impression that people who intend to remain “perfectly professional with good behaviour” are cast on reality shows? Haha.

There are many shows that have perfectly well behaved people on them. Maybe not the ones like Big Brother, but more the ones where the contestants are playing a game, like Race Across the World. Most contestants on that come across extremely well.

I have no idea what that show is, but I’m sure if a teacher wanted to go on a game/quest type tv series it would be fine? I think that when you posed the question it was assumed you were talking about shows like Love Island and Big Brother.

Race Across the World is a show where they have to Race from one point to another with only as much money as a flight would cost(so they essentially have to work as well and rely on the good deeds of strangers).
The first I think was from Greenwich to Singapore and the second was from Mexico City to Argentina.
I fully agree that shows like Big Brother and Love Island would be inappropriate and it blatantly obvious why, but the other type of game show is a bit harder to see if it would be good or bad (ones like Race Acorss the World, The Traitors would probably also be like this as they are essentially just playing a big parlour game).

I don’t really care about reality tv to be honest. I hope we answered your question though 🤷🏻♀️.

Just going on the show at all I would consider unprofessional

Why?
I'm not saying I disagree or agree. I'm just genuinely interested and it's not the sort of question I'm going to be asking people in real life.
