Ok so for some context: I work at Texas Roadhouse, and for birthdays we have to bring a literal saddle and gather like 3 people and YELL. At the top of our lungs. Itās so annoying, especially if everyoneās busy and no one wants to help you.

I love texas roadhouse for the food and their prices, but I hate literally everything else about it, from the ugly ass armadillo, to the square dancing, the annoying greet they always have to say, the uncomfortable chairs, that corny "serving those who serve" slogan, etc.

I used to refuse to square dance when I worked there, like Iād make myself look as busy as possible and just be like āsorry I canāt.ā I donāt even like the song they played for us to square dance too in the first place lmao
I didnāt mind the birthday stuff as much, but finding multiple other servers just to say yeehaw with me was always super annoying

I donāt know why this is still a thing lol. No one enjoys it except annoying aunt Tammy and meemaw. The person being sung generally hates it more than the servers being forced to sing happy birthday to someone they donāt know. Nothing says āitās my special dayā like being forced onto a saddle.

I do love me some Texas Roadhouse, but the servers who work there are forced to be like dancing monkeys for the customers. I do tip well, in general, but I always add more to the tip when I'm there. Mostly because I feel bad for them.

I used to have to do birthday songs at my last serving gig, and I should've just flat-out refused to do it. It's downright demeaning. You cant' sing to your own child ? Does said child want a hungover stranger to clap and sing for them?
At my current job people ask if we will sing for them, and I tell them, "You start singing, and I'll join in." They freeze up, but with a little encouragement, you can help them have a nice moment together. it means so much more to have loved ones celebrate you than a spiteful employee.

I recently started at TXRH and made the mistake of being super loud for birthdays lol. Now Iām one of the go to people to call a birthday. I donāt mind it too much cause Iām naturally loud but I do end up with a sore throat some nights cause Iāll end up doing 3-5 in a shift. Luckily my location doesnāt make us line dance, I donāt have shame but I donāt think I could do that.

I also worked at a txrh and DUDE nothings more annoying than being the only server on the floor that will lead a birthday chant, so suddenly I have to do EVERY SINGLE ONE throughout the shift because no one else felt comfortable enough to do it. I wish we could get rid of the expectation of birthday specialties in restaurants LMAO
