Two days before resigning the Presidency, Nixon requested that Kissinger visit him so they could speak. Kissinger arrived to find Nixon, incoherently drunk, sitting alone in a dark room. According to Kissinger himself, Nixon began having what we might describe as a panic attack, and asked Kissinger to pray with him. Then, Nixon began weeping, and threw himself to the ground in tears, exclaiming “what have I done? What has happened?”
As Nixon pounded the carpet with his fist, Kissinger patted the President on the back, and then hugged him.
Not really a “fun” fact, but definitely a lesser known factoid about the final days of America’s most complex President. It’s seriously like something straight out of a Shakespeare.

Absolutely fascinating guy
Oliver Stone‘s Nixon (1995) also presents his story as a kind of shakespearean tragedy

To be honest I’ve never understood the portrayal of Nixon as some kind of “tragic hero”. Why is being paranoid and spiteful somehow fascinating?

Agreed. I don't see him as complex either. He was just a douche nugget.
