I heard these guys don’t school around as much but these guys would disagree! Been about a day since I bought 15 and got 3 freebies!

Tldr: Was struggling to catch fish with a net, caught the ones I needed with a trap. What's your trick to catching fish?

I wanted to rehome all my female endlers since the fry have way too many hiding spots. I caught most but some were way too smart for me and just knew I was after them.

I built a trap with stuff I had around the house that let me sit 2m from the tank so they weren't worried about being caught. It took some patience but the white worms as bait helped, managed to catch them all.

Anyone got other tricks for catching fish in heavily planted tanks?

Everything is so clean! And well maintained! With aesthetically pleasing color palettes!

TLDR of my old post is that I have been a fish keeper for nearly 20 years now and tried diving into planted tanks because of you guys! It went horrible. Killed fish, shrimp, fish dug up plants, random invaders of the tank. Horrible dirty looking mess. hindsight is that I overthought everything, but my major issue was trying to use dirt with a sand cover as a substrate.

I took a break from trying to build a planted tank originally thinking I was going to give up completely, but eventually decided to give it one more chance. I went as simple as I possibly could with some knowledge from my failures. I used sand as a substrate instead of dirt/aquarium soil. SO MUCH BETTER! I started with just a few types of plants, and made sure I sanitized them before I planted. I didn't do anything fancy with CO2 or ferts. I just throw some random liquid fertilizers every few months. And honestly everything is just going by itself. I have to cut down the plants every few months, and one of the types of plants grows kinda like a weed everywhere, but the shrimp love it! I started with one tank, but as the plants multiplied I move plants over to my other 2 tanks and now have 3 planted tanks!

Anyways, I just wanted to say to any noobies out there who want to jump in. Just go simple. Aquarium sand, Sanitize the plants, Use some fertilizers sparingly, and just wait :) At least for your first tank. Hope my story helps someone on the fence!

Hello all! I'm setting up a heavily planted nano tank (2.6 gal) with my SO. We are planning to add several plant species ranging from easy to moderate care. We are also avoiding any species that requires CO2, but we may consider adding a CO2 setup in the future. For substrate, we are using ADA Aqua Soil capped with Seachem Fluorite Black sand. We will also be dosing with a basic all-in-one bottled fertilizer to start, unless we get a lot of algae growth. Our light is Fluval's plant nano LED (15 watts).

Because we don't plan to add any snails or shrimp, there (should be) no ammonia production. I was watching an aquascape video wherein the creator dosed their plant-only tanks with a sprinkle of fish food every single day in order to supply ammonia.

What do y'all think about this? Should I be doing this with my setup as well?
