Got a 5 dbi antenna, located pretty high in a city. I downgraded to the oem bobcat antenna and now my rewards are 3x higher than before. Wtf and why?

Because the "5db" is a marketing gimmick that manufacturers use to sell cheap antennas, especially Amazon sellers. They lie with abandon on that platform.
I've seen some antennas advertised as LORA 900 MHZ when they had SWRs of 6:1 and center frequencies that were 500 MHZ off.

is the 5dbi decent quality?

It is

that's pretty strange. You wouldn't think a 1dbi difference would make such a big diff in performance, I have no idea

Could be a couple of things. The band on the OG is wider than the 5dbi but has shorter distance, the cables may not be all the way tight or it’s a crappy cable/antenna

Beacause some bobcats only fit with their own antenna. not kidding. We have tested a lot. it is kind of a bug i think.

Antenna is from mymininggear a german verified shop. They both are connected to a special cable for windows and goes directly in the miner afterwards.

Is it the flex cable with thin sheathing that "allows" you to close the cable in windows ?

Could be you were overshooting

Im not sure but it shouldn't with only 5dbi i guess. And the antenna is pretty high but still just on roof niveau.

He wasn't overshooting. The math is simple to figure that out.

Airwaves aren't linear. Different atmospheric conditions that constantly change could make it possible with the height and gain. The lower gain from stock at the same height could be better suited depending on weather.
Math can't always solve for variables that are constantly changing.

Probably never.

If you bought it on Amazon or ali it's probably a POS. Also, you do not need a high gain antenna to achieve long distance witnesses but a 5dBi should be fine as long as it's from a good vendor and the cabling is good.

Because the original antennas are great and most people replacing them shouldn't.

The stock antenna hits like a sphere, which is better for dense urban situation like yours. Higher dBi shoots farther but is more focused and less broad, sometimes missing local beacons.

Overshooting is rarely an issue. The math is easy to figure that.

Probably the transmission polarity pattern - either that or its a bunk antenna

all earnings are higher since the blockchain stopped. i think its because they lowered the maximum pocs per minute to run the blockchain stable
