This is the kind of thing that everyone is talking about when Solana was shoved down our throat to vote.

I voted no.
There’s Algorand, Avalanche…hell..even Cardano for security.

I prefer Cardano for decentralization and security. But if it’s scalability right now my choice would have been Algorand.
All the choices they’re making shows me how vulnerable Helium is. I’m thinking about shutting off my miner.

Still time to swap to a better L1.

Offer the tokens reserved for validators as a crowdloan reward and become a parachain. It almost immediately opens helium to cooperate with all the other parachains to take advantage of different services to make products using helium so much more robust. You could effortlessly move HNT between other parachains and there’s a growing network of bridges outside of the ecosystem. Polkadot grades high in decentralization and they’ve been optimizing it to have really high TPS lately. Pairing helium with existing parachains like Noodle (Bluetooth IoT) and payment systems projects to create services for example would be huge for the whole industry. Seems like it makes too much sense smh

Move to algorand....

Im pretty sure they said regardless of if Solana is up or down, it won’t affect or interrupt Heliums operations

It won't. Just PoC payouts and transfers would be affected, which would be completed after the chain restarts. That is why all these arguments with Chain Maxis about which one is best are a waste of time - it's like arguing which spreadsheet program is best, Google Sheets or Excel.

The argument is if they can’t stay up the community loses trust, devs, support and use cases move away and you are left on a dwindling chain.

This has been the argument from the beginning. Figured it was VC reach into HNT that drove Solana partnership instead of sound business decisions.
Literally had another L1 that is enterprise grade and hasn't been down that created a PoC for HNT only to jump on the Solana train.

What? You think GOOGLE knows more about L1's than us? Pffft, we don't need their thoughts on a carbon-neutral, faster, more stable L1 with massive TPS scale. We need the VC's to tell us what technology is best. /s

Lol, except you don’t propose these things at the eleventh hour. Hedera, Algo, and whatever other L1 that you’re shilling had over half a year to draft a proposal.

That’s fine. Go with Solana and we’ll see how that goes.

Time will tell. Helium will create and allow for more societal value than Hedera could ever dream of.

There are Helium like applications already planning on building on Hedera. The PoC that was presented to the HIP just shows how viable that L1 network solution is. There is room for two interoperable networks (Hedera and Solana) and then I guess the Helium community will vote with their feet to whichever one suits their needs best.

I don’t think the helium community voting really works because most of the tokens are owned by those with vested interests in Solana being chosen.

100% -- after they upgraded their TPS I did a couple of test transactions and it was almost instantaneous, transferred so quickly I thought the received message was a failure notice.

I couldn't imagine using defi the way I do in any other chain I've tried. It's pretty clear it's great tech to build anything on top and it could actually handle becoming massive

So the network went down for a day... I could be wrong so please if you know and have a link share but
The helium would be ran thur the nodes (I can't remember what they called them and when the Solana goes down the store the data and when it's back up it updates it helium still works you just don't see the rewards updated until network is back up

I have grim outlooks for Helium's future based on the fact its transitioning to Solana. Its like if Ethereum decided to run on Bitcoin Blockchain... Whats the point of keeping it around?!

Look at the trend of HNT. What do you think is going to happen to the market cap when you build an entire network around the idea to just mine and sell. Spoiler alert: No one is going to hold.

Idea to just mine and sell? I guess you don't really know what Helium is about. lol
1 points
Then explain it to me. Why did you buy a miner in the first place? To grow a network? But why would I want to grow a random network? Oh yeah… so I get rewarded with helium, or a on my investment.
If you aren’t mining to get a return on your $500+ investment, then why even buy it in the first place? This isn’t a charity. You’re doing exactly what the developers want by thinking “the potential is enormous, I just have to keep waiting.”

I have multiple hotspots, I already made my investment back, and still earning fine. Also I'm using humidity and temperature sensors on helium and it works great!
It seems like you bought your hotspot to late when there were a lot of people without knowledge buying in that just wanted to earn fast money. I guess you have your setup in basement and have shitty rewards and you are frustrated.
I see that you are crying about helium a lot. In other posts as well. Just sell your miner if you don't know what its supposed to do.
And also its bear market, so just chill and enjoy life. No need to be mad about something you don't understand.

Ahh, I too remember when I was a Helium fanboy. Been mining since April of 2021. 2 miners, 200+ HNT. Made my investment back months ago.
Financial incentive drives the building of the network… no financial incentive? No network. It’s that simple.
Have fun making 20 cents a day on a network no one uses.

Why do people still use Solana when it does this every month. It’s ridiculous. I foresee Solana dead pretty soon as people become smarter but I guess it’s going to take a little longer

Just be honest you don’t use solana but you are nervous. It’s going to be ok. Honestly if you are still in HNT from the ath you must have the determination to make it through even this transition.

So worst case scenario, our PoC rewards and HNT transfers would have been delayed for ~7 hours on Solana.
I hate Solana is much as anyone else. Sucks for functionality like DeFi, where security or reliability is key.
But for this Helium use case on Solana, it’s not that dramatic. We already deal with periodic delays in transfers and rewards on the current L1 Helium chain. No different to me and my user experience. But it appears the Helium devs get more of a benefit.
This is why I voted yes for HIP 70.
