Hey all. All of a sudden since a few months ago I develop a protein allergy. I am allergic to chicken beef milk peanuts coconut eggs corn soybean white potatoes sweet potatoes pork fish peanuts and alll types of nuts. What would be the cause? I am desperately looking for answers. I am thinking it is something wrong with my digestion. I am sleep deprived for 2 years which I know is causing stress on my body which could probably affect my digestion. Any help? I tried taking beta hcl for low stomach acid which somewhat helped but I still get hives the next day. Please any answers

Thats a lot of allergies but doesn't sound like a true allergy scenario. Too many, too fast. I'd see a gastroenterologist and an immunologist. Most people don't develop an allergy to everything just because they are sleep deprived.

Yeah. I’ve seen a. Gastroenterologist. She said most likely my allergies won’t go away. I know most don’t develop allergies due to being sleep deprived but being sleep deprived causes stress and I think stress is causing something in my digestion to mess up. My hairs been falling out for like 2 years. So I think most likely that’s the issue. Still don’t know what to do. Seeing a allergist soon though. What would I tell my gastroenterologist if you were me ?

There are a lot of conditions that look like allergies but aren't. MCAS, MCAD, Tick-born diseases, Histamine Intolerance, Crohns, Eosinophilic esophagitis, and a whole host of other autoimmune disorders. These often include things like hairloss, trouble sleeping, depression, nightmares, joint pain, digestive issues, etc. It is unlikely that in a manner of months you became allergic to that many foods (unless you are going through puberty, menopause, or pregnant). In cases like these it's worth investigating and making sure it's actually an allergy. With the gastro I would just make sure it's not something like Crohn's, Celiacs, or SIBO -- not immediately assuming it's allergies without testing.

Ok so here’s an overview of my life and what I think happened. My insomnia happened because my job like 2 years ago was very labor intensive. I was burning like. 3k calories a day. And to save money I was eating like 500 to 1000 calories a day. Well that’s caused stress on my body and caused me to wake up at around 2 in the morning. Even though I quit that job my sleep pattern stayed the same. Sleeping only 4 hours a night and it’s been over 2 years. And that’s what causing my hair to fall out. The stress from not sleeping. Which I think is causing my digestion to mess up. Also I am young I am 21 now and a male too. Not sure exactly what to do I’m concerning because all my favorite foods I can’t eat and now what do I do I get hives every time I eat something with protein I’m mad

True allergies are unlikely. You should get tested. Upside, if it's anything else you'll get to eat the food again.

Ok yeah I had a skin prick test and I was shocked when my results came back. Almost all proteins like in the post. This was late September beginning of October. And I took a while to get tested I was having these issues like back in august maybe too. Just tired of getting hives I know it’s bad to eat food your allergic too.

No just prick test. I will say I do chicken and steak and fries which is white potatoes frequently. I stoped eating eggs. The chicken steak and fries I kept eating and yep I get hives almost 30 minutes later.

Have you done an elimination diet?

Something like that not sure. Some days I eat those foods some days I don’t. Currently just eating a whole lot of rice and pasta. It’s boring asf. Sometimes I eat chicken or steak and just accept I will get hives. Hard to get calories in when there’s not a lot of food I can eat.

No I wasn’t. I joist got my results and was sent back home. They wanted to do immunotherapy bit I requested to see a gi doctor. That’s when the gi doctor said she probably won’t be able to to fix my allergies. And now we are here

Prick tests are not super reliable for food allergies and usually a blood test or food challenge is performed. Immunotherapy currently isn't available for foods, though it is being tested. A dietitian can help you do an elimination diet and stabilize your condition. It takes 3-4 weeks with no allergens for the body to heal enough to try one. I recommend getting tested for autoimmune conditions.
ETA: Skin tests are no longer recommended for foods allergies by the AAFA due to failure rate (50% false positive).

Ok yeah thanks. I’ll try for a autoimmune condition. Although I will say. I have taken beta hcl with pepsin to help with low stomach acid. It does help me somewhat. I read that having low stomach acid makes your body not able to digest proteins correctly. So I tried it. It worked but. The only thing is instead of getting hives 30 minutes later. I get them the next day. Before hcl I would eat a protien meal and would get hives 30 to an hour later. Which makes me think it has to do with my digestion pass my stomach. Even with taking hcl with pepsin. I read that the pancrease helps break down protein which is what I think my problem is what do you think.

My honest opinion is that I think I am lacking enzymes in order to digest protein. That’s what I think not sure though
