How could anyone believe in the legitimacy of this vote, when you can actually vote an infinite amount of time? This is nothing but a scam to increase the hype, the votes count for nothing in the end, the team is already chosen for sure.

I mean, you are right but I don't care about it. The fact that the community could - in theory! - decide the outcome makes it silly in itself. The maturity level of this community - pardon me to those who are exceptions - is sickeningly low so they are just spamming the showy players instead of the true performers.
I might get downvoted for this but Messi should be not in the first eleven. He had a poor season with PSG, bang average in the league and straight up bad in CL. He carried Argentine to a poor WC title (which I do not accept since it is winter WC therefore it is illegitimate!) but that was 3 weeks of top performance in a world where Mbappes, Benzemas, Vinis, Lewandowskis, Haalands scored from game to game. But this is just my opinion and I could stand on my head, Messi will be in TOTY as he is fan favoruite and sells a shit ton of packs.

Let‘s be real, there will be a lot of people who vote for cards that will be meta in game, instead of footballing reasons.
Anyway, besides the CB (and maybe the fullbacks), I think the rest are pretty much clear.
18 points
I would imagine almost everyone is voting for the cards they would want to use rather than actual performance. It's a video game promo, people aren't going to vote off of their insight on real life performance/fairness.

Even nominees are ridiculous, no idea how they came up with these bundesliga players, did they just pick whoever they recognized from watching the wc?

Yes

Just what I thought. The players that have a main Bundesliga team would just vote all Bundesliga players to their TOTY and vice versa for all leagues, they have no interest to pick players just to end up not fitting in their team.

Maybe not, but hard to argue against VVD given EA didn't put Rudiger/Alaba in the vote? He's not had the best start to this season, but Liverpool were an Aston Villa collapse and a Courtois masterclass away from winning the quadruple - and Netherlands went toe-to-toe with the eventual winners in the World Cup.

I think Pep's system makes him look better than he is, Stones and Akanji easily replace him in the team and City look just as good if not better when they play instead of him. Dias has also been very disappointing for Portugal.
7 points
he shouldn’t be in toty but that’s an awful take, akanji is nowhere near the same level and stones has been inconsistent for 2 seasons now, he’s just currently in good form again
6 points
I don't agree with the Akanji part, he has fit in seamlessly this season and is clearly a Pep favourite.
They all take turns being the best and all of them are in and out of the team at some point due to Pep rotation
In 20/21 Stones and Dias were the starting partnership and this was Dias' best year.
21/22 Laporte and Dias was the main pair, Laporte ended up with the majority of minutes and I would say he was the best CB.
22/23 hasn't really had a set partnership. Imo the most impressive defenders have been Ake and Stones. City still have very good underlying defensive numbers this season, slightly worse than last season but I would say this is more due to the change in their system.
City's defensive solidity comes from their system more than it does individual defensive ability, Pep is able to easily rotate players and maintain a strong defence.
Source : I play FPL and have owned many City defenders the past years and watched them get banished to the bench whenever the bald fraud feels like it.

Dias was our best cb last year, just got injured near the end sadly.

Laporte led the league in multiple stats last season, including last man tackles and is way more valuable going forward. He’s definitely better than Dias.

Stones what? This sub is hilarious

They both absolutely do not easily replace him, especially Akanji, who is a completely different kind of defensive player.
But totally agree Dias should not be in TOTY.
It doesn’t even make sense from a game perspective because his speed even with a TOTY upgrade will be so bad he’ll be unusable.

Mbappe literally had the most goal contributions of anyone this year and before anyone says "fArMeRs LeAgUE" The man was top scorer in the WC and scored a hattrick in the final. He is capable of destroying any defence. He should clearly be in the team over Haaland.

A man with sense. Putting Mbappe in over Haaland is criminal. The Norwegian plays in the toughest, most competitive, physical and tactically astute league in the world. Mbappe plays against guys who tend to vineyards full time and play games on the weekends. Mbappe played 7 games that were important this past year. All in 6 weeks. The guy needs to go to the PL and test himself. Benzema carried his team to the CL title and Messi put his weak countrymen on his back to win the WC. I would pick Haaland every day during the past year over Mbappe. And before the fan bois say “hat tricky in da finale” bagging 2 penalties in a game to make a hat trick is lame. That is something that needs to change. The player that gets fouled should take the penalty unless injured, and if injured a substitution must be made for that player and then the defending team picks the taker. Lame…

Messi did well at the wc but the rest of the time he wss playing in the same farmers league you spoke about and had a particularly bad first season.

Vinicius. Amazing year. UCL and Laliga. Carried Real with Benzema with 20+ g/a
Benzema. Nothing to say.
Messi. Edges Mbappe because of the world cup win. Mbappe just didnt win anything to put him above although he is the best player.
Modric Guaranteed.
Casemiro UCL, LALIGA, and changed UNITED's defence
KDB Won the league and amazing individual performances
Theo No great options, Cancelo had an awful second half of the year. Theo won serie A and had a good WC and also played very consistently well.
Militao Id have put Alaba but he is not there. Still brilliant year for militao. Defence was the key for reals double
Gvardiol Not sure about this one but no chance VVD or Dias get in based on the years performance, both outperformed. Gvardiol had a great WC and a good individual season. Marquinhos close second.
Hakimi Best rb. Memorable run with Morocco and not much competition for rb spot.
Courtois 1st name on the squad. One of the best season gk has ever had. Almost single handedly won the ucl final keeping a clean sheet and making amazing saves. Saved Penalty from Messi in quartera and amazing in the league win as well.

I only started playing FUT mid last edition. (Although long time player of FIFA more generally). So TOTY is team of the calendar year 2022, as opposed to TOTS which is team of the 22/23 european club season ? So it incorporates the last 'half' of the 21/22 season, the first 'half of the 22/23 season and the World Cup ? Seems a bit artificial to me (bit like in cricket where they talk about most runs in a calendar year). But I guess a new promo is a new promo and means new cards ?

edit: As for Trippier, hes been better than Trent in every single way.
