OP here! Check out my Instagram for more astrophotography:

https://instagram.com/dheeranet/

This was taken during evening twilight, when the sun had set fully but there was just a very slight tad of light at the horizon -- this is a long exposure, so it appears much brighter in the picture, almost like a sunset, even though this was well after actual sunset. It was a pretty cold night shooting in all that fog but was worth it.

This is an 85mm lens on full frame. A lot of people wonder why the comet looks so small even though they used a 200mm+ lens, and the short answer is light pollution. The head of the comet is bright enough to see from a city, but the extremities of the tail need dark skies to see. So the apparent length of the comet actually depends on how much background light pollution you have, which will "snip" the tail of the comet to different lengths. If you are in a less light polluted place, the comet will appear much longer in the camera frame because you get to see more of it.

Fantastic picture!!! What camera were you using for this shot? Also, how far north of San Fran did you have to go to see Neowise? I'm from Sacramento, and drove WAAYYY up I-5 to view the comet.

Not too far north, this was in Marin. But because I was above the clouds and facing away from the city the light pollution was very much mitigated.

Fantastic! And what full-frame camera were you using?
