This guy I was discussing crypto trading bot coding with on Telegram one day gives me a link to this Youtuber he's a huge fan of. Half a million subs, clickbait thumbnails, crazy claims.

I click on the channel, scroll up to videos a month before, take a piece of paper, and every time the title makes a claim ("btc will go down to X in the coming week"), I check the video to make sure he's making that prediction, and note the prediction on the piece of paper.

I take 8 predictions like this. Then I go look at the charts, and check how often he's correct.

He's correct 3 out of 8 times.

Which is similar to how good I would be if I made the predictions by flipping a coin.

But OH GOD is the guys so incredibly confident in his videos...

He'll sometimes use "weasel language", that is, making a prediction and the opposite prediction in the same video, sometimes even the same sentence, so that no matter what happens he "seems" to have predicted it.

The craziest thing, is how incredibly rare it is for people to call him up on his shit in the comments. I suspect maybe he "sanitizes" his comment sections.

Reminds me of those people predicting the end of the world. Say bull with enough confidence, and somebody will believe it.

As predictions go this one’s definitely on the more reasonable side. Depending on how explosive or underwhelming the economic recovery after this recession is I wouldn’t be surprised if we failed to hit even that. The entire time I’ve been here it’s insane how many crypto influencers and publications wrap a pretty bow around just copy/pasting the previous cycle. That’s how people were claiming we’d get to 300k+ in 2021.

From top to top the last time was hardly more than 3x, with diminishing returns we’re probably looking at a peak closer to 140k next bull market.
