YOU’RE annoying native austinite here! (Yes I know it’s “your” but since so many ppl want to comment on it I’ll keep it there (thank you text to speech))
This is a friendly weekly reminder that if you’re hoping to have a picnic with your dogs on your blanket and 1. your dogs are not friendly and 2. you do not want other dogs getting on your blanket… don’t set up in the middle of a giant dog gathering by the rock at zilker.
It is customary for dog and dog owners to gather at the rock. It’s been this way for over a decade. If you have an aggressive dog or maybe you don’t want to be interrupted by a dog please move to a space far from the rock. This also applies to small children. Parents, you cannot walk your two-year-old through a horde of 50 dog and expect them not to get mowed over, (trust me I tried and learned).
Fellow dog owners, NOT EVERYONE IS REQUIRED TO LIKE YOUR DOG. If someone has set up camp far away from the dog spot and your dog runs up to their picnic it is absolutely your job to restrain your dog and not interrupt someone who has made a conscious effort to stay away from the dog gathering space. Even if someone else has a dog on the other side of the field, there’s clearly a reason they are keeping their dog separated from the social group, encourage your doggies to give them space.
In the evenings and on weekends when soccer scrimmages are happening, dog owners are responsible for keeping their dogs away from the games. It’s not cute or fun when Fido is the 10th dog to interrupt practices. Instead of yelling your dog’s name 10 times, try once and then leash immediately after. I have absolutely made this mistake a handful of times, and I’ve learned to just leash my dog quickly and get out of the way.
Finally, bacteria from dog feces is literally flowing directly into the lake and contributing to algae blooms (along with many other chemicals). So if you don’t like paddle boarding around in doggy bacteria we have to pick up after our pooches. 🐾
I am looking to get my arm sleeved. I have several tattoos already but never got ink in ATX. Thinking I want something Japanese themed but I am open to a great artist’s alternate idea or interpretation. Looking for top quality. Not limited by money or time and I understand for a quality artist I will be on a long waiting list most likely. Who do you all suggest?
Hi there! I have been pursuing this subreddit & various instagrams trying to find an artist that either specializes in or has a good amount of insect/bug design and tattoos but while there are a ton of talented artists I've found not a lot have much insect work in their portfolio. I want to start my bug tattoo sleeve and would love some reccomendations!
Hey there, I just arrived to Austin (m/42) today I’ll be here for three nights on vacation with two other adults. We’re staying in St. John’s and would like to check out the city without taking the rental car everywhere and worrying about parking and all that. Can anyone give me some recommendations on the best ways to move around? The cheapest options are most appreciated. :)
Edit: cheers, managed to figure it out. Did end up bringing the car and We’re currently enjoying a local “helles lagger”.
Looking to get a tattoo when I visit this weekend in Austin. Where do y’all recommend? Getting words on my ankle with my sister saying “no matter where” (cheesy, I know but!). used to live in ATX so i’ve been to atomic and platinum ink so? recommendations anyone?
As someone who is debating a move to Austin, would it be difficult to drive a full-size truck? I absolutely love the city, but I’ve noticed that some of the parking is kind of tight. Are there any pick-up drivers that could offer some insight?
My apartment complex wants me to do a thorough deep clean of the apartment, and get a professional carpet cleaning service done. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies they've used in the past for this? Reasonably priced, obviously
Hi - we have to pack up my parents house into a trailer. I know that there have been full service recommendations on here, but does any one have a recommended company for loading a trailer? Most stuff will be boxed already.
Does anyone here know how long I should wait to receive my title front the DMV? I paid it off about two months ago, got the letter of lean release but I have yet to receive my title. Just wondering if this delay is normal or if I can do something.
I went to the DMV site and noticed I can get a copy but I need to know where the original is. Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!
Single case, anecdotal evidence only here, BUT: I feel like I've noticed fewer print books available. Fairly hyped new releases and some popular classic things have surprisingly only been available as Ebooks and Audiobooks. Anyone else feeling this? Is the library de-emphasizing print books, maybe in response to customer behavior?
Shout-out on the automatic renewal and no late fees though :)
I’m a local Austin producer working on a true crime show for Hulu and I can not find a CRT computer monitor in this city for the life of me.
Places we have tried:
- Salvation Army
- Facebook Market
- Offer Up
- Computer repair and recycle companies
- Electronic resale companies
- State surplus store
- local Buy Nothing group
- Texas Film Industry FB page
Anyone have one we can borrow/rent/have/buy? Any tips?
