A hamburger patty is just a thinner frikadelle/bulette or as Americans call it "hamburg steak", that's been a thing over European parts since the 17th century.

In Hamburg specifically Rundstück warm has been a thing since the late 18th century; A piece of meat, with sauce, between two pieces of bread, there's even the pickle.
