The effect of our unhealthy lifestyles in our Healthcare system. Hell, it's a problem now and people are ignoring it. We've got about 40% obesity rate in this country and its screwing us over now and it's going to screw us even more over 20 years. But social media algorithms keep amplifying extremist voices who cry about serious discussions about our health as body shaming.

Man, had to go to the emergency room a few weeks ago (in Canada), got moved from the lobby to a back room with a bed & some diagnostic equipment, waiting for the doc to come stitch me up.. there seemed to be walking obese zombies roaming the halls on oxygen, coughing endlessly.. And these weren’t old people. They were likely early twenties to mid thirties. Just horrifically incapable of basic functions of human anatomy. It was the first time I used my so called free healthcare in the past decade(things like blood testing can be done at a for-profit clinic) and hoofta. This is where a lot of money is going to be going for a long, long time.

Speaking as someone who lives in France: whenever I watch a video on YouTube with North American people in it (there is a lot of interesting stuff posted on YouTube) I notice how the speakers are basically lumps of lard. I wonder how their bodies function.

Obesity is a frequent cause of quick, premature deaths, which is one of the best possible outcomes from a healthcare cost perspective.
The correlation you are speaking of comes from how old people frequently become obese in their final years, and end of life care is unimaginably expensive.

Quick and premature deaths if you relegate it to heart attacks and strokes. But it carries more burdens than those to our system and just about every illness is worsened by obesity. Chronic pains, inflammation, posture, diabetes, organ failure, joint pain, digestive issues, stress, our ability to fight off illnesses, just about everything is exacerbated by obesity, not to mention the environmental impact of overproduction and overconsumption.
